Over the eight years that I have lived in SMA, I have found that the Mexícan people with whom I do business, expect to have a relationship along with the business that we are doing together. In fact, the business we do together IS the relationship. Our foreign attitude of do the business and get out, is not what Mexícan people expect, and in fact consider it rude to do business that way. This 'relationship' includes acknowledging each other on the street when we meet, or in any other public places. It does remind me of when I was very young in the 40's and 50's when lots of small operations were friendly as a part of doing business.
What will I write about on my weblog? A wide variety of things. There could be postings about my reactions to a movie or TV show I saw. I might weigh in with my opinion of a presidential election or a world event. Or I might recommend a restaurant I've gone to, and include detailed directions or a map to it.
The photo below was taken by Phyllis Kynas, a visitor from British Columbia, Canada. Phyllis says, 'I was struck by how COLD it gets in SMA during the winter! I even spent a month at the beach, but when I came back to SMA, it was still cold. I won't be back during the winter.'
'NEWBIES' Jason says: 'Aren't new people here a phenomena?? They glom onto people who live here, drain them for all their worth, then they are gone. I adopted a nice guy my age from Arizona. He would call me even during the night to ask where he could get a saxaphone, music, food, utilities, etc. For about 6 months this went on, and I, thinking I was being a 'Good Samariten' helped him out. All of a sudden, he was no where to be found. I heard from some of the friends I introduced him to, that he has been 'hanging' with them. What great gratitude they have. This is not the first time this has happened to me, but a good reminder not to service these 'Users'.

Dialogue from the SMA Coollist.
Is there anyone who goes up to Laredo/McAllen every other month and would like to earn some extra money?
I'm an artist and my paintings are all pre-sold in the US. My delivery agent is no longer available. I'm hoping to find someone who has room in the back seat of the car or in the trunk to bring some paintings to my "offices" in Tx so they can be delivered to the purchaser.
I know about Mark Bartell but am hoping to find a different situation.
Thank you.
You should try Jennifer Moore- 149-5111 or 044-415-153-8159. She goes up and back about once a month
no, I don't show in SMA. I work with glass and metal, having switched from oil painting ( wasn't very good). My work is pre-sold (HOORAY) - 50% pay at the front, remainder upon delivery.
I have recently hired a U.S. company to do a website for me. For various reasons, I would like the website to be limited to U.S.
Someone, with a van, called last night and it looks like we will be able to work together on the transportation.
Thank you to all who responded to my request
Jim, the "artist":
Mark Bartell is an honest, long established business man who is earning a living and supporting his family by being a courier between SMA and Texas. If you are so cheap that you don't want to pay legitimate shipping costs the hell with you.
I beg your pardon?? Did I say anything against Mark??? Not that it is any of your business, but my "art" (as you say) requires a great deal of room and Mark seldom has that.
Yours is a very strange email. I await your apology.
My Second Topic
Some of my postings will be more personal. I'll write about my job or my family, or describe a trip or vacation that I took. Where appropriate, I'll also include pictures and sound to help you get the "full experience."

Here's a picture I took on a recent trip.
We hope to update this page often with new photos.
